Fujian
Mountains, frequent rain, humid air, and acidic soil shape much of Fujian. Wuyi rock oolong grows among cliffs, streams, and mineral-rich ground. The province also makes white tea, hongcha 红茶 (red tea, called black tea in English trade), and jasmine tea.

Yunnan
Forest, rain, and steep changes in altitude divide Yunnan into many tea climates. Some mountains still keep very old tea trees. The province is known for pu’er and Dian Hong 滇红, Yunnan red tea.

Zhejiang
Zhejiang has a mild, humid climate, with rain falling on green hills. The best-known Longjing 龙井, Dragon Well, comes from the West Lake area near Hangzhou. In traditional making, the leaf is pan-fired by hand until it lies flat and smells of fresh chestnut.

Jiangsu
Near Suzhou, tea gardens sit on the Dongting Mountains beside Lake Tai. The climate is mild, and water is always close by. By tradition, the tea bushes grow among fruit trees there. This is the home of Biluochun 碧螺春, Green Snail Spring.

Taiwan
Taiwan’s tea grows from low valleys to gardens above 1,000 metres. High-mountain gardens are cool and misty, and the leaf grows slowly. In Chiayi County, Alishan gives a smooth, fragrant oolong. The island makes a wide range of styles, from lightly processed tea to heavily oxidized tea.

Zhenghe, Fujian
Zhenghe County lies in Nanping, in northern Fujian. Gongfu hongcha 工夫红茶 (Fujian red tea, called black tea in English trade) and white tea are made here as local specialties. Our supplier works from this county. She is an eighteenth-generation tea master. She also sources teas from other provinces. Fujian also holds other teas of note: Da Hong Pao from the Wuyi Mountains, Zhengshan Xiaozhong and Jin Junmei from Tongmu Pass, and Tieguanyin from Anxi.
